PMR Provides Homeland Security Technology to San Diego Street Scene Music Festival

Vista, CA - September 8, 2003

Pacific Microwave Research, Inc. (PMR), of Vista, California, successfully conducted an operational demonstration of its newest Homeland Security technology. The Tactical Video Transmitter (TVT) provides First Responders with realtime video communications in the tactical environment. A prototype TVT system was fielded at the nation’s third largest outdoor music festival, Street Scene 2003, by the San Diego Fire Department’s Special Trauma and Rescue (STAR) team and Joint Hazard Assessment Team (JHAT) operating in conjunction with the San Diego Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team. These First Responder teams provide rapid response to critical tactical situations.

PMR has developed a compact digital video transmission system that provides Homeland Security and military agencies with reliable and secure video transmission in the tactical environment. Realtime tactical imagery is critical to situational awareness and enhances decision making during crisis management. PMR is working with law enforcement and SPAWAR to transition the technology into a commercial product. The company has received a grant from the Center for the Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT) to study the market potential for its TVT technology.

PMR also provided microwave video downlink equipment to a joint task force consisting of the US Navy, US Coast Guard and San Diego Police Department to provide imagery from a Navy airship during the Street Scene, which is located in the heart of the San Diego business district. Video was linked to the combined command center as well as available to command staff in the field using PMR’s handheld Tactical Video Receiver. The technology provides Homeland Security officials with safe and effective assessment of the tactical environment to facilitate development of an appropriate response plan.

Pacific Microwave Research, Inc. Announces New Tactical Video Microwave System

Vista, CA February 17, 2003

Pacific Microwave Research, Inc. (PMR), a leading manufacturer of video surveillance and security products, today announced it has released a handheld microwave Tactical Video Receiver (TVR) that is designed to provide first responders with real-time video imagery from the visual or thermal camera of an orbiting helicopter. The TVR enhances assessment of tactical situations by providing real-time aerial video to improve decision making and reduce response time. The TVR makes truly mobile, portable and fast-response operations practical.

During the 2003 Super Bowl events, the San Diego Police Department used TVRs to provide command staff with imagery from the department's Airborne Law Enforcement (ABLE) fleet from venues around the city. In addition, a PMR portable ground station receiver was used at the stadium to feed airborne imagery to SDPD personnel throughout the facility. Deployment of the TVRs enabled SDPD commanders on the ground to evaluate traffic and crowd conditions in real-time. The TVR is a compact handheld unit that uses a rechargeable battery pack that is worn on the Sam Browne and is compatible with all helicopter video transmission systems.

The Tactical Video Receiver joiins PMR's complete line of video/audio microwave products that include analog and digital transmitters, receivers, antennas, low-noise amplifiers and frequency multipliers. In addition to standard products, PMR provides its customers with custom component and system design and manufacturing.

Pacific Microwave Research, Inc. Announces New COFDM Digital Microwave System

Vista, CA September 1, 2002

Pacific Microwave Research, Inc. (PMR), a leading manufacturer of video surveillance and security products, today announced it has released a COFDM Digital Microwave System designed for broadcast, law enforcement, and military applications. The new system provides exceptional performance and reliability by digitally coding an analog television signal and associated audio signals for wireless transmission. According to David Dirdo, PMR's Chief Technical Officer, the system "provides immunity from many of the problems that degrade the performance of analog microwave transmission equipment." The COFDM equipment provides consistent quality video from a moving platform such as a police car, racecar, or military ground vehicle. Reliable wireless video images from moving platforms have been very difficult to obtain prior to the introduction of this new technology.

According to Dirdo, "broadcasters will quickly adopt this technology because it offers better field performance and greater spectrum efficiency." As broadcasters are being displaced from traditional frequency bands to accommodate new commercial technologies, there is a need for broadcasters to become more spectrum efficient. PMR's COFDM Digital Microwave System allows more users to coexist within any given amount of spectrum as compared to conventional analog technology.

The COFDM Digital Microwave System joins PMR's complete line of video/audio microwave products that include analog transmitters, receivers, antennas, low-noise amplifiers, and frequency multipliers. In addition to standard products, PMR provides its customers with custom component and system design and manufacturing.
